As you can see, not much contrast because of the long distance between
camera and subject.
Is there any way to improve on these pictures in a batch method with
Gimp? Or other software?
Try this (convert is from the ImageMagick package):
convert -modulate 200,90 dsc02388.jpg dsc02388b.jpg
Adjust parameters to taste.
