I find it easier to navigate using the cube. And what's wrong with a
desktop that looks good?
I'll take efficiency and functionality over esthetics any day.
And my 2D desktop does look good. Just doesn't have wavy, transparent
windows or rotating animated do-dads, interspersed with moving, jumping
menus and cute little creatures dancing about. It does, however, have a
peaceful background photo of a calm azure Tahitian lagoon pierced by
cloud capped, green felt mountains against a deep blue, unpolluted sky.
For what little really useful features Beryl, et al, adds to the desktop,
and what hardware is required to make it run smoothly, the trade offs are
simply not justifiable in my book. However, I'm sure there are many who
will disagree, simply because it's "...way COOL!" As long as I have my
choice NOT to use it....
