Help! Alsa SPDIF working but only gives stereo!!!

Hi all,

I have bought a new computer with the onboard audio. My motherboard is a P5B.

Alsa (1.0.14rc3) recognise it as:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

My sound card is connected to my Onkyo amplifier using a digital optical cable.

I´m using Fedora 7. (I have tried with ubuntu 7.04 but gets the same result).

I have tried with vlc, mplayer, totem-xine, aplay and speaker-test but only my front stereo speaker work. With vlc (using SPDIF bypass) my Onkyo receiver starts clicking trying to decode the signal but never stop clicking without any sound. When I set vlc to stereo, It works but only in stereo.

How can I make that works in AC3.

I have been searching the web for two weeks but haven´t found anything working. Does the ICH8 family SPDIF mode is supported by ALSA yet?
