You may not think so, but it is acting a one. Windoze calls this
Internet Connection Sharing, but you have to send your packets to that
box to use it to access the Internet. In Linux, we call that service
IP Masquerading, while other operating systes have other names for it.

Its the other PC's ip address (the gateway for my PC - for XP).

But it's only a valid gateway when it's turned on, and dialed in.
The rest of the time, it's a false route, and causes problems.

from the other PC.

Actually, Linux, and before that, many of the branded UNIX. were doing
this as much as 13 _years_ before microsoft "invented" the Internet.
