You're right, the applications menu does offer some choices, but not

Gnome is just up to version 2.18 - you're obviously posting from sometime
in
the future, when CNR is ready for use!
The Synaptic package manager does all you ask of CNR, costs /nothing,/ and
works properly.

All your points are well taken. Although there is no need for the 'attitude'
of some.
Right now I am using Debian 4.0 and enjoying it. Yes, synaptic works just
fine.
But CNR 6 is qualitatively different. I know from previous versions.
