I have never even had any interest in Linux, but since I just got a new

my regular drive. Anyhow, I went to linux.com to download it....

OK, I know someone is going to tell me to buy it on CD. Well, if the
price was the cost of a blank CD, plus actual shipping I might consider
it. but I would not pay more just to "look at it", and likely never use
it again, "IF' and "ONLY IF" I could even install the damn thing. Like
what the hell does one do with a .ISO file anyhow?

Go ahead, post photos..... That's all I need.....

There have been some good bits of advice here, and some genuine keyboards
dipped in acid. I promise to try to stick to the former, not the latter.

First. Take a deep breath. Let it out slowly. Relax.

Good. Now, we can think straight. A dial-up line is not exactly the best
way to get a copy of linux, in nearly any flavor, that will really make
you want to switch over full time. Try getting help to download and burn
at work, or from a friend/neighbor who has high-speed internet and a
burner. Or, find a LInux user group, or look up Ubuntu on the net. They'll
send you a copy at no cost.

On the subject of names. You don't just want linux - that's only part of
the picture. You want a distribution - distro for short. Names you want to
look for are Fedora, Mandriva, or Suse. Take note. These distros are
multiple discs each - 3, 4, 5, 6. Plan accordingly.

Once you've gotten to that point, block out a weekend when you don't have
too many demands on your time, fire up the windows box so you can do
quickie research over the net, then fire up the box where you plan to put
your distro. Stick the first disc in, reboot that computer, take your
time, and have fun.

Hope This Helps.
