Yes, you won't be able to have Linux utilize the bare hardware.

I'm
not concerned about the speed and don't plan on using Linux that much,
mainly just want to learn about it, but I do want to access my intel
wireless card with it.

Not having used VirtualPC, I can't say if VirtualPC will permit Linux
access to your wireless card or not. However, as a rule, these
virtualization systems do not permit direct access to hardware from
inside the virtual environment. It would not surprise me if VirtualPC
presented your linux system with a single virtual NIC on a virtual
lan, and translated all traffic between the virtual lan and your real
hardware itself.
