Weird file access problem

I am getting some files that I cannot access properly.
A while back I reported a VSFTPD problem with problems accessing some user
files.
Basically getting a '500: OOPS: cannot open config
file:/etc/vsftpd/users/auser' on any new files.
I have found the files that cannot be accessed have a time field instead of
a date field in a 'ls -al' listing.
Anyone got a clue whats going on ?
The only thing I can think of is its an SELinux problem that came about via
an update.
Many thanks in advance,
Aaron
