hey everyone, I have Debian Etch installed on my HP dv6040 laptop
at first when I would boot I would get a black screen
after fixing my xorg.conf
I get black screen or desktop at random
so I was told to boot with acpi=off naopic
it boots alot faster and no black screen
so.. I was told that my problem is with acpi
I was just not told how to fix it
so.. I was wondering if anyone could help me?
You are gonna have to figure out whether this laptop can even do acpi
but with acpi off, its probably not working anyways. I'm not sure
whether you can just use apm but I'd give it a try. APM is older but it
seems to handle some laptops better. Have you found any success stories
with this model of laptop using google? Some people will list all the things
that worked out of the box, the things they futzed with, and things which
just are not working.
I just checked http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/hp.html and I don't see
that laptop listed at all. Its interesting that the ubuntuforums has
info on the laptop model
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-246493.html
Seems if you pass both noapic and acpi=off that the wlan and sound will
not work. If you just pass noapic and forget about acpi=off, things may
work.
Try searching on the ubuntuforum forum...
