I'm a fairly experienced ubuntu on user, but I've come across a couple
issues.

1) My audio card is not working. I thought it would detect it
immediately, but it doesn't. It's an Integrated High Definition Audio
from Intel. When I attempt to adjust the sound, it gives me this
message:

"No Volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found."

The Intel_HDA has differences between the different manufacturers, you will
need to add extra options for the driver, here is an example used by a gentoo
user with a Dell laptop (this done only once):

echo "options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1" > /etc/modules.d/alsa
modules-update

I suggest you use alsamixer to adjust your volume, at least the fist time.
That way you exclude trouble caused by buggy gnome2.

2) I've never had a DVD player before, and I can't seem to find the
right package to install in order to get it running. If it helps,it's
a DVD/CD-RW

For looking at movies:
apt-get install xine-ui

For burning DVDs:
apt-get install k3b

3) Lastly, it won't let me download Xine Extra Plugins. It says that
xine extra plugins can't install on my computer type. I'm running an
Intel x86, so I'm pretty baffled. Any and all suggestions are helpful

No, you don't you have an x86_64 and if you are using 64bit version of ubuntu,
then you won't be able to use 32bit extra plugins for 64bit xine

Or you could use VLC instead.
You may need to set a regioncode first time you want to play region set DVDs...
