In case you are not just pretending to be ignorant, under linux look
under fdisk, for "format disk".
If you mean fdisk(8), the only thing there which references "format" is in
the DOS 6.x WARNING section. Perhaps John is going to use VFAT for his
Linux partitions.
Now, in the menus under the fdisk binary, the word "format" does not occur.
Perhaps I'm using the wrong versions of fdisk(8) and fdisk. Debian does
use some older packages. Where should I look?
When I prepare a disk for use in Linux I create new filesystems using the
mkfs.(fstype) utility; I do not "format" them.
