Hard drives do not make crackle noises What I suspect is that your
soundcard was on and input pushed way up, and sound from that input caused
by electrical interference was what you were hearing

with PCLinuxOS I find the application menu display so blocky, that it
irks me to death.
and the hack to change all that is over the top.

so that leaves me with Xubuntu

None. Your concerns are so peripheral to the distribution that all distros
will have some weirdness that you cannot stand.


what chances have I with it on my Asus A3AC laptop
(methinks linux is not friendly with laptops)
