Hi there I am trying to install DSL on an old Vaio 4g drive I have hooked up
as a slave in an Compaq running Damn Small Linux. I have to run DSL because
I want to switch to linux from Window and the Sony vaio is the only machine
I can spare right now, It only has 64mb ram and a 4g harddrive ( currently
hooked into a compaq so I can load DSL as it has no cdrom/usb or floppy.
Anyway I have done the following
1 Formatted the vaio 4g using format under win2k it's now running fat32 in
a new windows partition.
2 I boot with the DSL disk
3 I start a terminal window and type
dslQbox"~$ sudo mount
it returns quite a few lines but I think the relevant one is
/dev/hdb1 on /mnt/hdb1 type vfat (
rw,noswid,nodev,umask=000,uid=1001,gid=50)
Ok so from my notes I think I have to type
sudo cfdisk /mnt/hdb1
this results in the messages
opened disk read-only you have no permission to write
then I hit enter and get
FATAL ERROR: cannot get disk size
I hit enter to get out of cfdisk
I am puzzled by this whole thing??? from the mount command it seems to be
telling me that /mnt/hdb1 is rw so what am I doing wrong?? am I missing a
step?
My intention is to create a linux partition and a swap partition on the vaio
drive. Load DSL onto it and put it back in the VAIO. I really would
appreciate some help here, REMEMBER I AM NEW TO LINUX!!!!
