Not sure if you have sshd enabled in the DSL, but if you have, it can be
easier to make the changes from your desktop machine (using putty) than
trying
to see what it says on the screen.

Another trick can be trying to use battery as the power source on the
vaio,
often the screen gets a bit dimmer to save battery.

battery HA! I dream of having a battery in this thing. Right now it's broken
apart lying across my workbench, once I get this thing installed I'm going
to shove it all in a cigar case and carry it around like that. Thanks again
for guiding me through this "interesting" time, I believe the phrase "we do
these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard" applies
