ASUS Australia's Eee PC is now available at nine retail outlets following Myer's exclusive deal to sell the ultra-portable on debut.

Apart from Myer, the $499 laptop can be purchased from Betta Electrical, David Jones, Good Guys, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, Retravision, Wow Sight & Sound and Officeworks.

The Eee PC has made the headlines across the globe, with reports of it being sold out hours after going on sale. In Australia it was no different. Thousands of units went like hotcakes when Myer opened its Sydney CBD store on December 1. By 12.30pm, they were all snapped up.

Both Asus and Myer have been mum on actual sales figures, with Asus Australia managing director Ted Chen saying: "Asus has onsold 100 per cent of Eee PC stock to retailers and of this, 80 per cent has been sold through to consumers (end users). Actual number of units sold has not been released as revealing this information could potentially jeopardise our business."

The Linux-based Eee PC runs on a 900MHz Intel Celeron Mobile and doesn't come with a hard disk drive but is WiFi-enabled.
