And the question would be....Why aren't you using a proper journaling
file system? JFS doesn't do that. It isn't hard to change filesystem
types if you have enough disk space to create a temporary tar file on
while you reformat the partition with the new filesystem type. A USB
drive would be just fine to put the temporary tar on.

Get with it, man! ;) Non-journaling filesystems are so yesterday.
