Re: X11 problem

Maybe VI is installed but what I recall from the VI i used (back in
1992) it was a pain in the but to work with, emacs is much better.
[...]

Oh good grief. Learn a few of the simple commands for vi / vim. It is
good for you, puts hair on your chest, makes you a man. If you are a
woman then you probably should stick to emacs. (It's a joke ladies, I
know you all are very feminine and prefer vi(m)) Anyway, emacs is a great
OS that needs a simple text editor. :P

I have used VI before and I hated it. My profession is software development,
mostly for Windows and Multimeda but also databases and homepages. Hence the
need to set up my own server fro testing. If I worked as a system
administratot I would RE-learn VI. I did write a lot of code in vi back in
1992 when I was at the universaty. But that was a "long" time ago. What I
didn't like about vi was that you had one mode for writing text and one mor
all the commands.

Yes emacs is complicated to learn unless you user xemacs. That is emacs for
X11. As a programmer for Sun Solaris I came to love emacs back in 1993. A
realy powerfull editor in textmode when it comes to compiling. Two windows,
one with the code one with compiler errors and short keys to jump between
the error lines in the code. The biggest reason I have to use emas is that I
know the commands. I'm lazy I don't wnat to relearn an old stone age editor.
The only reason that vi is used is that Linux or Unix for that case needs to
be maintained in text mode.

BTW
If you thought being a man has to do with knowing how to master vi or Linux
you're just another "computer nerd" or geek if you prefer. Howerver you can
be a nerd and still be a man. When you become a father then you know what
being a man is about. Or a girl becomes a woman she gives birth to a child.

Seriously, any decent *n?x systems administrator *must* know the basics
of vi(m). Any Linux distribution that does not include vi(m) in a default
install is not going to be one I will use.
