Please set the date on your computer, you are posting 12 years into the
future and this will force your post to the top of the server forever and
not allow it to take it's natural course.
Certainly not universally. I just did <ESC> p
on your post and get,
Article <41418E93.42680.oslinux@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> not available.
Heh, I had to go in Linux and use slrn to figure out what you were
doing, Steve. ESC p is to find the parent article. I just tried it on
giganews and the OP came right up. giganews has a huge retention period,
several months for binaries and text posts could last forever it seems.
So I guess it really depends on the NNTP server as to how long an
article lasts. But still, on a server with long retention like giganews,
a text post dated so far ahead really would be around and staying at the
top of the list for a very long time, months and months and one would
get sick of seeing it and having to try and find the line where "the
real new articles begin" every time one used one's newsreader in that
particluar newsgroup. That is annoying at the very least. Good
netiquette dictates that one should set one's system clock properly,
especially if asked politely by another internet citizen to do so
because it affects others news reader programs and results.
Good point though. :)
