Hi,
I was given an "old" Presario 700 and I would like to remove windows and
install Linux instead...here are a few details:
-AMD Athlon(tm) 498Mhz,240 Ram
-PCMCIA adapter Texas Instrument PCI-140 cardbus controller -Network
adapter Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC -Modems Softv92
Data Fax Modem
-Display adapter S3 Graphic twister 00860E11 ( microsoft corporation)
I already use Mandriva2008 on my desktop but is probably too big or
heavy for so little memory and speed?
I am not a "high end user" of Linux and I do not want , after four years
using Mandriva to consider myself a newbie anymore, but my knowledge of
Linux is only enough to use it with no problems for my purpose, so when
a technical problem like this arise I do not know which way to go...
thanks for helping,

I would suggest Elive. It has, IMHO, a little more going for it than
items like puppy or damn small which are rather spartan. I've installed
Elive on a P166 with 64mb and it ran 'decently'. I think you'd find such
a system too 'light' for KDE or GNOME - should use XFCE, Enlightenment or
one of the other light desktops.
