Why don't you tell us what you want, and why you want to do this first. We
may have better ways of accomplishing what you want to do.

Note that the ability to change the MAC I beleive rests not only with the
system but with the card hardware. If the card sends out its MAC
automatically and uses the hardware MAC you cannot change it. If the card
allows you to change the MAC then Linux will allow you to do so. But tell
us what you want.

Sorry but this is the first time I know that some cards doesn't allow
us to change the MAC address, Could you give us more info about this
matter. Havn't seen this before. And to change the MAC address we are
forced to do this some times. For example if you configured your
switch with static MAC then you changed your host NIC, You will not be
able to join the LAN again but after doing the change to your LAN
switch, Or if your LAN works with static ARP entries and you
configured your hosts with the fixed MAC address of the gateway then
you changed the gateway or it's NIC. So you will have to change the
MAC address of the gateway on all clients or simply you change the new
gateway MAC and you are done, So some times we want to change the MAC
address really.

.
