Kubuntu 8.04Beta - A No Go

Downloaded Kubuntu 8.04Beta and ran, looks good, especially KDE 4. However,
I cannot use it and neither can a large number of folks. Why? Glad you
asked. The internet access tools/apps are so skimpy (like all too many
distros) that I cannot access the internet.
Folks, this is just plain stupid. Terminally and radically DUMB. Distros
load up all kinds of "cutesy" stuff and leave off the most critical apps of
all.
In case you are wondering if I am just a malcontent. Here is my situation.
I have two houses, at one I have a wireless network and the wireless card
in my main computer is a "D-Link DWA-552." There is no driver for it (I
know it is available in the public domain because Sabayon includes it) and
no "ndiswrapper" so I could at least install the Windows driver (ala
PCLinuxOS). So, I have two choices, buy another card just so I can run
Kubuntu or run an OS that will allow me to access the internet with my
current setup. The later makes more sense
The other house is connected to an ISP that uses "PPPOE" (complete with user
name and password) for each log on. There is a wonderful set of apps for
this, but Kubuntu (ala. Ubuntu) does not include them.
However, in both cases Kubuntu/Ubuntu has then - but guess where they are?
Yep, in repositories OUT ON THE INTERNET.
[Deb now gets off his soapbox and returns to his normal self {which is odd
enough anyway}]
