You are dinking with beta, or it's at some development version prior to
a "final release" of a known-to-be "bleeding edge" Linux distribution,
and are then wondering why there's problems. Wait a few weeks for the
bleeding edge "release" and use it - that's the best advise I can offer
for your current interests.

However, if you want a stable version, get what Ubuntu is a spin off of,
get the real thing, get Debian Linux.

And this is an advantage why? Ubuntu's claim to fame is precisely making
the installation and running of Debian. You comments sounds like: Instead
of Debian, get the source code for the kernel compile it, and then get the
source code for all the gnu utilities from gnu compile them, and adapt them
to fit together. Again the advantage would be what?

But as I stated, I also am having similar problems with Gutsy, which
is the current stable version.

I tried Debian for a while and I did like it but I got discouraged
when it was impossible to get my printer to run with it. And I don't
remember but there was a couple other things that just made it to
tough for me. Then I heard about Ubuntu and tried it out. I like it
enough to persevere for a while. Maybe I'll just install it without
Windows and it should be ok. But I'm not a pro with Linux yet and I
kind of hate to ditch Windows completely cause theres some things I
really nned it for.

I have not followed this thread from teh start, and the start has been
erased. Why in the world would you have trouble running it with Windows.
The two have nothing to do with each other, except in booting, and either
lilo or grub can certainly boot windows. Windows sometimes screams if it is
not on drive C: (ie the first non-locaical partition on the first disk).

As much as I despise that steaming lump of an OS, if you need MS, don't
ditch it.

Although your first post was long it contained nothing of what is vital
to assist you. I, we, need error messages and the like. Please, gather
messages and provide pertinent information, and I will see what I can do
to help. First, so you understand what is needed and how to provide it,
read from this point on the web page,
http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#beprecise , to its
conclusion, then do what is written. In all likelihood, we can answer
you if you follow the FAQ's instructions.

Agreed. Remember that none of us are mind readers. We know nothing
whatsoever of your system unless you tell us. NOr are we likely to have
seen something similar so we cannot guess either. Are you running grub or
lilo? What is the problem you are having? What exactly is on teh boot list
which comes up right at the beginning of the boot process? etc
