applied to both versions which has goofed up things or something has

You do not state whetehr you use lilo or grub. Also make sure that you use
the verbose bootup not the graphical so that you can see all of the
messages as they come up. What message comes up as it is trying to boot.

sofasurfer, Unruh has given very good advise. Do as he said, _write_
down the errors and posts them here, even though it may be tedious, so we
can get a clue what's up. TIA.
