Downloaded Kubuntu 8.04Beta and ran, looks good, especially KDE 4. However,
I cannot use it and neither can a large number of folks. Why? Glad you
asked. The internet access tools/apps are so skimpy (like all too many
distros) that I cannot access the internet.
Folks, this is just plain stupid. Terminally and radically DUMB. Distros
load up all kinds of "cutesy" stuff and leave off the most critical apps of
all.
1] "Kubuntu 8.04Beta" You DO know what "Beta" means? If you want a "stable"
distro, use Kubuntu 7.10. The *final* release of Kubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" is
not scheduled to be released until April 24th, & it will probably still use KDE
3.5.9. AFAIK Kubuntu isn't likely to include an official KDE4 release until KDE
4.1 is released sometime in late April/early June. Even then the Kubuntu
development team will have to adapt/port it to the Kubuntu distro.
2] KDE-4 RC2. http://www.kubuntu.org/announcements/kde4-rc2.php
RC2 is a Release *Candidate*, it is *not* a final release.
See above.
I did findout from the Desktop folks that the "nidswrapper" is on the CD,
just not installed. (Does that make any kind of sense?)
Yes, not everyone uses or needs it.
