Recommend a Linux for me?

Hi there! I'm a linux rookie looking for some advice. So far I've
tried Kubuntu, Sabayon & Knopixx, just for fun.

I really liked the graphical desktop of Sabayon (Beryl). I downloaded
Kubunutu (7.1 i think) expecting it to have something similar to Beryl
built in (Compiz Fusion) but I was sadly disappointed when it's
default was just plain old KDE 3.5 with no fancy graphics.....

Questions:

1) Which version of linux should I try next? (I want a snazzy beryl-
style desktop, I dont really like KDE, and it should be friendly to
linux rookies)

2) Did I download the wrong version of ubuntu? Do I need to install/
activate compiz or does it come 'turned on'?
