internet and found they had included "madwifi_kernel" which a very polite
note tells me is required but not included in the software but can be
downloaded from the repository. Of course, you know where the repository

DUH, is an acronym for what, exactly? You've (mis)used it now twice.
If you can't find an Ethernet cable, then grab a USB thumb-drive, and grab the driver you need from an PC with internet connection, then transfer the file onto your PC. ***, the ways to accomplish what you need are endless, no need to post this pointless crap. Especially since you don't really ask a question, or for help.
