Hi all,
There are many software programs that claim to wash/clean, remove,
delete traces of surfing, cookies, clean the temp folder, erase other
history, delete spyware, malware etc in Windows XP.
I wish to know if there is any equivalent for Linux too. AFAIK, Linux
doesn't allow websites to screw up the system with unwanted stuff.
Since there is no registry for Linux, then where do the websites
deposit their files as they do it in Windows?
Someone told me that the not all files from /temp folder in Linux
should be deleted. Well, then how do we determine which files are
needed by system and which are unwanted?
KDE has a Sweeper program but I do not think its an effective program.
Anything else can be suggested?
Rgds,

I'm using Firefox and occasionally Konqueror. Both have preferences
which can be used to clear history, cookies, cache (internet temp files)
or to set which cookies, how much history and cache to keep and allow.
Check your Firefox preferences.
Alright, let me put it the other way. I understand that Firefox clears
cache, cookies, surfing history per the settings made in Preferences. So
if this suffices, how does the need arises to install anti-spyware, anti-
malware, antivirus in Windows and not in Linux? What is that makes Linux
a better OS to guard against such threats? How does only Windows gets
affected by malware, spyware? Some do recommend antivirus for Linux,
though its not as necessary as its for Windows. Does this mean that
washing and cleaning software is meant exclusively for Windows?
