That shouldn't be a problem, it's supposed to read and not write.


I'm not sure about the procedure;
some packages don't have debsums, some appeared to have incorrect ones.

deb hasn't been as strict as RPM, where you always have checksum data (nowadays even a certificate for the RPM in official releases).
