Why is this newsgroup called alt.OS.linux?
Linux will never be a popular desktop OS, but it is and has been
for years a
Yes, it will. My clueless musician buddy, with a non-functional,
pirated version of Cakewalk, loves rosegarden.
Multiply by no. of Windows users. Most of them just haven't run
into anyone like me, yet. :-)
I am talking from the business computing standpoint. Linux is and
will still be confined to the back end.
That's not how it is at my client. Commercial (proprietary) Unix, and
now some Linux, is their backend. They also have an entire division
of high-end Linux boxes (dual headed desktops), and have had for some
time (long before I got there). In the next couple of years, they
intend to roll out a few thousand more (company wide, not just in that
division).
This isn't the first client like this I've worked with. I smell a
trend in the air. My Mom and you may never use it, but a lot of
others will.
