particular disk could be bad.
The question of 'bad disk' should be avoidable. -1- dl the .iso -2- check
the .iso's md5 -3- burn the disk from the .iso, consider optimal burn
speed based on your experience with your burner & burnware making coasters
or 'bad' disks -4- with ub, you can also check the media before booting
the CD -5- if the media tests good, you don't have a bad disk
What happened, for those who are interested, is I installed Ubuntu.
Everything was fine at this point. I added a second distro (maybe
PCLinux, or Zenwalk); still could boot both.
Then I added the third, either Debian or Mandriva. Whichever it was,
it only gave me itself as the choice of boot options.
I've had a number of experiences with the result of the structure of the
grub boot manager vis menu.lst and the fstab being whacky not allowing a
smooth progression from booting a windows > booting a windows or a linux
distro1 > booting a win or a distro1 or a distro2.
I think that when that turns into a mess at about the 3rd or 4th distro
install for a multiple bootmanager, you have to hand reconstruct the
menu.lst and fstab. There are several 'tutorials' about how to do that.
