real joystick in the world does this and I know little about game
sticks (this is my only one).
It works fine in Mig29 the windows gamesim however. Would this be
because m29 smartly uses a threshold below which it ignores input? Any
advice? I'm prepared to buy another one (the simpler the better!) but
not if it's not a stick problem.
My experience is that the dead-zone is usually handled in software by
the stick configurator or the application, not a function of the
hardware itself.
It's like a car steering wheel I guess, you want that small but
unmistakable detent in there where nothing happens physically or
digitally. The stick I have has a poorly defined physical dead zone
which I suspect means nothing digitally. If you're right then the
problem is googleearth code.
Anyone with googleearth experience w. different sticks?
FWIW, all the sticks I ever used back when I used them, had slightly
variable physical movement of the pots in the base, which translated into
never managing to get consistant response or a small enough deadzone to
be practical in some cases.
I did mess about packing the things firnly in place on a few joysticks,
but then the planned wear and tear on the pot tracks themselves induced a
variable change in electrical response, so I finally gave up trying to
get a joystick to work like you'd expect an expensive bit of kit to work,
and accepted that they're all cheap on the inside and liable to cause
problems at random.
IMO, half the purpose of the bundled software is to try and hide the
flaws and faults in the typical cheapo production of these items.
