Welcome to Software Freedom Day Online!

*On August 28, 2004, we will celebrate the first annual Software Freedom
Day.* On that day, we will make the world aware of the virtues of Free and
Open Source Software (FOSS), and encourage its widespread use. We will set
up stations in public places to give away informational fliers and CDs with
selected FOSS, including TheOpenCD <http://theopencd.sunsite.dk/> and a
special all-free version of Knoppix <http://www.knoppix.net/>.

This is a global grassroots marketing campaign in which we are inviting
volunteers from around the world to participate. It will be up to the
individual teams to chose how they wish to organize their local PR efforts.
We will assist with bulk production of supplies, though the cost of supplies
    must be distributed.

Check our team pages to see if there is already a team near you,
    <http://softwarefreedomday.org/wiki/index.php/Team_Pages> or use this form
    <http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/staticpages/index.php/TLSignup> to sign
    up to start one.

We also have a forum <http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/forum/index.php> and
mailing lists to help you stay informed. We hope you will join the
    celebration!
    <http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/staticpages/index.php/mailinglists>

We have set up a wiki
    <http://softwarefreedomday.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page> that will contain
all the team pages so that team members can set up and maintain their own
information. Matt has made a team sign-up page
    <http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/staticpages/index.php/TLSignup> where new
team leaders can register their team and provide contact information. We
would ask that even established teams take a moment to fill in this form so
we have some standard contact information on all the teams.

We have now settled on an official approach for the supplies we will provide
to teams Software Freedom Day. We have always felt that it is important to
have a professional appearance on the items that we give to the public, so
we decided early on to help the SFD teams attain such professional quality
materials. The exact form this would take has evolved during the planning
process, and we can now present this year's for provision of the materials.

    Software Macedonia <http://www.freesoftware.org.mk/> have recently
distributed 1000 CDs, half and half TheOpenCD and Knoppix, to help promote
FLOSS. Here's the trick, the event was held outside the conference hall, in
Skopje, where Microsoft's "Vizija" (Vision) conference was taking place, in
    short, Wonderful
