XMMS Remote Controll

Hi!
I have got a really hard problem.

I want to build a program which uses my five button-mouse as remote control
for xmms. Because my mouse is a cordless one it would be really nice to
controll xmms by this mouse from every where in my small room without
looking on the monitor.

My idea is to bind to the buttons the following actions in xmms:

1. Button: Play/Stop (c)
2. Button: Forward (b)
3. Button: Backward (z)
4. Button: Exit remote control program
Scrollbutton: Volume control (arrowkeys up/down)

So, my program has to:
- intercept the inputs by the mouse
- convert the input to the according key for xmms (which is not really a
problem)
- send the key to xmms

Please help me if you have any idea to one of the three (two) points!
