Greetings!
I am attempting to build an RPC application for a client that will run
both under Win2000/XP and under Red Hat Linux, with SUN/Solaris thrown
in as a bonus if possible. Googling has given me some idea how to do
this, but most of the data I found is anywhere from 4-5 years old.
Consequently, I re-post here to ensure nothing has changed.
Now --
There are two variants of RPC:
-- DCE RPC (supported natively by MS and available on Red Hat /
Solaris).
-- ONC RPC (supported natively by Red Hat / Solaris and available --
barely --
on MS).
Soooo....
... are the above still true? Is ONC RPC still the "default" RPC
available on RedHat?
... which variant would you use? Which solution "runs" better across
the
three boxes? Which is easier to work with? And perhaps most
importantly, how much do I have to pay to get this to happen (non-free
software, etc)?
Also, what development tools are available to support either variant?
(Sun provides rpcgen to support ONC, Microsoft provides MIDL to
support DCE, I have
no idea what's available on Linux 'cause I haven't been able to get
the box yet).
Many thanks for any help you can offer.
Respectfully,
Brian P.
