Can't recognize shared library

I wrote an application that uses a 3rd party shared object library
that is not included as part of the Linux operating system.
I sent the application and the shared library to someone to test on
their system and they cannot get my application to run because it
cannot find the shared library.
What do they need to do in order to be able to run the application?
