I'm looking for an application under Linux that can do presentations
(so-called "powerpoint"-like presentations).

I've been using Latex and postscript to do this for years, but I
reckon that's getting tired, and although I can do math expressions
and tables easily, fonts, colors, pictures etc are quite hard.

I have used magicpoint (http://www.mew.org/mgp/) which I like as it
has the right level of complexity and weight, but its doesn't really
support audio in the presentation. You can play audio at particular
points in the presentation but I really need to be able to click to
play and repeat plays as most of my presentations contain substantial
audio.

I've looked at kpresenter and the powerpoint lookalike in OpenOffice
but its not obvious to me that they support embedding audio.

Also there must be a method for generating pdf so the slides can be
distributed, I don't mind if the audio/movies can't be included in the
pdf, but at least I should be able distribute the slides without
others requiring the same application that I used to write the slides.

Are there any suggestions?

thank you

Alan
