I couldn't find Abiword in Mandrake 10.0, I guess they've dropped it in
favor of KOffice and OpenOffice.

BTW, KOffice is also a good option. According to
http://marketing.openoffice.org/2.0/featureguide.html (long page; search
for "KOffice"),

"OpenOffice.org (OOo) 2.0 and StarOffice (SO) 8 use the new OASIS Open
Office XML File Format as their default file format. Support of this
format has also been announced by KOffice."

Then KOffice could be ideal for clerk-work thin clients and other basic
users, while OpenOffice for power users. Feasibility of such setup is
arguable, though, for it introduces additional management and learning
costs. Nevertheless I guess KOffice is a better alternative to Abiword. It
is a complete suite, and it's (going to be) compatible with OpenOffice v2.
