fopen problem

Hi,
  I just ran into a problem with fopen, it wont handle files
larger than 2 gig. How do i open & read through binary files
files larger than 2 gig?
Mandrake 9.2 kernel 2.4.22-10mdk x86 based system
with gcc/g++ v 3.3.1
