Hi, I want to make a large scale project involving many hardware components and existing technologies (IE, TCP/IP, Modem, Webcam, Audio in and out.
I went to the Java NG and asked if I should use C++ or Java, and guess what they told me.
I guess I need some input for both sides. C++ is faster than Java, but is it more stable? I don't know that. If Java has evolved into Labview, and everything is native then this might be a 3 week project instead of a 2 year project. I just don't know. I may eventually wish to interface with Windows PCs (although the original app will always be on Linux) If java offers enough abstraction, then I could port over directly, and have to rewrite very little. (It's the lower ed stuff I'd want portable, GUIs are easy enough to make.)
Can someone with some experience give me some help? I'm scared to start this kind of thing in C++ without the MFC crutch I've become accustomed to. Of course, there is always GNU source code out there as a guide, even if I don't use or replicate the source itself.
