DNS serrver update via client?

I am attempting to write a program that updates DNS server (BIND) with
system names and their associated IP addresses.

I did scrounge for information before posting. Maybe I was using wrong
terminology, I am not familiar with DNS.

At this point, we do not care what IP the message comes from, we just
want to take the name of the station and its IP address and update the
DNS server so that any further lookups of the station name will be
resolved.

1) Is this possible?

2) If so, where do I look to find the formatting of the message for
updating the DNS server?

3) Server setup to allow this.

I wasn not sure if the "networking" group was the right place to post
this query, so I am posting it here also.
