Ok, at that, I can agree, and I think we can walk away agreeing to
disagree at the outcome but at least having thrashed this issue out in
every possible dimension.
Can you explain to me why you kept using loaded terms like "theft" to
refer to my position? It's a poor debating tactic and ultimately tends
to weaken your own argument.

possible to create a valid executable, that links against a library and
calls code from it
As a practical matter, you can't really do that under Linux because,
Yes I can. I can create a library with the same interface [same set of
symbol names] and no code, and link against that. My application won't
work, of course, until it's moved to a system where the library does
exist, but it'll link just fine.
