should all the GUI frameworks of Linux run on xWindows?
Not a requirement but most, or all, do. They use X for the base graphics
drawing primitives and the GUI framework/toolkit provides the high level
functionality. GTK+ does have a direct to frame buffer port and therefore
does not need X.
