I think Unknown hit the nail on the head! I have a bad switch, and
once in a while, it just drops a few hundred packets...
just "is".
With limited resources the switch tries its best, but its within its
specification to drop frames if it runs out of resources. You may be able
to get two NICs to hammer the hell out out of each other without
packet loss, but its as artificial as plugging to walkie talkies together
with a cable and saying how good the signal is.
If you need a very high speed synchronous link then ethernet is not best,
if you need every frame then UDP is not best.
