Desktop? Gentoo doesn't even include a desktop in the basic
installation.

Considering that it is basically designed for people with the burning
desire to watch compiler output flying by for no particular reason,
anyhting else would be ... surprising. Taking the following quote into

comparing Gentoo to Slackware wrt to 'UNIX(*)-ness' rings somewhat
bizarre. Especially, technical simplicity has certainly never been a
goal for Gentoo and neither has been 'sensible preselection of
included software' (another thing Slackware reportedly tries to
achieve).
