Are you using Emacs or Xemacs? In Xemacs that's the
default
binding, I just tried it and it does exactly what you
want.

Regular Emacs is decidely inferior to Xemacs however

that you want seem to work in regular Emacs also.
Which distro are you using?
I'm not aware of any distro having any Emacs flavour as a
required
package. FWIW, none of my systems (Gentoo) have GNU Emacs
installed,
and some have no other editor than vi (and ed).
