What is the exact syntax for changing the action of moving to the next
word, and prior word using <Cntrl><RightArrow> and <Cntrl><LeftArrow>
respectively? How do I make this syntax work? (*** NOTE ***) I

Other examples have much larger gaps.
Are you using Emacs or Xemacs? In Xemacs that's the default binding, I
just tried it and it does exactly what you want.
available and installed, Xemacs was not included in the default
installation of my system.
Regular Emacs is decidely inferior to Xemacs however the key bindings
that you want seem to work in regular Emacs also.
