Re: Nokia to Acquire Trolltech to Accelerate Software Strategy

What surprised me the most was the selling price. For some reason, the $151M
CAD seems pretty small.I don't know why, but I think the company would be
worth more. For example, KDE is based on QT. I know there is no
direct/formal connection between the two other than KDE _uses_ QT. But
since KDE is one of the top desktop environments (if not #1??) for Linux,
and perhaps for Unix (??), I would have thought that would increase QT's
perceived value? I guess the key word is "perceived".

Well shows that QT is not a money maker and is not able to generate
hype.
You can only generate money with licenses and there they have beaten
themself
with there GPL version.

Also there is no future with this codeline. A new widget toolkit needs
true
multithreaded and multiplatform design. QT is a X11/Win Toolkit.
MacOSX feels
not good and you see it is 12 years old design. Also it is C++ not a
safe way
for the future where one side is going GPL (this means no money market
for
development tools) and the other is .NET or Web Based Applications.

Lets face it there is no real future with this toolkit for a company
of this size.
It could sell well with a handfull of developer. Thats why the don't
get a lot of
money, only that what it's worth well IMHO much more then this.

The question is what Nokia does expect? Bochum/Germany shows that they
are hard calculating each Euro Cent. Maybe it's the BeOS-Palm type of
deal,
not buying because you like the product but to get a good programmer
team.
(Even this idea didn't work for Palm very well - they are close to a
Chapter 11
at the moment).
