Where are gdk sources from the last tagged "stable" release?
I'm behind firewall

You mean 2.12.6? ftp://ftp.gtk.org/pub/gtk/2.12/gtk+-2.12.6.tar.bz2
It took me about one minute to find it.
And yes, I googled for about an hour or two. And I checked on
ftp.gtk.org
I went to gtk.org, clicked "download", clicked "GNU/Linux and Unix",
clicked "GTK+ 2.12", clicked "gtk+-2.12.6.tar.bz2", took a look at the
tarball and verified that gdk is still a subdirectory in there.
I'm vaguely begin to understand why kde is far more popular than
gnome:
it offers superior usability end to end.
gtk != gnome. I use gtk (gtkmm, actuall) a lot, avoid gnome if at all
possible.
