Is this a myth / origin story? Rebooting to effect driver changes is not a
user's ordinary end-of-the-day shutdown procedure. I certainly don't
install a new driver, turn off my computer, then go home. I always turn it
right back on again to verify if the driver installation worked. Also,
Windows machines have had power management for many many years now. I don't
turn off my PC, it hibernates for me.
