[Q] SID?? security ID?

Hi, there.
I wanna know about SID! :-)
My googling doesn't give me good information about SID..
could you explain about SID??
I guess maybe it's MS windows thing.. is it?? or...
Does Linux have anything like SID ?? or any Unix variant has it??
Also what should the daemon process's SID be ??
Any good pointers to the web pages??
